A man, Ayuba Sani Tumfafi, has been sentenced to 10 years in a correctional centre for unlawfully killing his friend, Ibrahim Dan Larai, following a disagreement over the early morning Fajr prayer.
The Kano State High Court handed down the sentence after finding Tumfafi guilty of unlawful killing over the dispute, which began when the two friends disagreed about waking up for the dawn prayer.
Justice Dije Abdu Aboki delivered the judgment at High Court No. 1 after considering the evidence presented during the trial.
During the proceedings, prosecution counsel Amina Uba Adamu called three witnesses and tendered three exhibits to establish the case against Tumfafi.
The defendant also presented his defence before the court reached its decision.
After reviewing the evidence, the court found Tumfafi guilty and sentenced him to 10 years in a correctional facility.
In addition to the prison sentence, Justice Aboki directed the convict to pursue both Islamic and Western education while serving his term.
The judgment brings the trial to a close, with the court combining punishment with an educational directive for the convict’s time in custody.
