Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has said energy and the ability to withstand the rigours of political leadership, rather than age, will be central to his campaign, as a video showing him jumping off a stage during an engagement circulates online.
Makinde, who is the presidential candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement, made the remarks while speaking about the qualities needed to tackle Nigeria’s challenges, insisting that his campaign would focus on his energy, capacity and ability to work rather than make age an issue.
“I will not make age an issue during my campaign. I will make energy, ability to stay up late, the rigour and energy to tackle the issues and challenges we face as a country,” the governor said.
He then challenged other potential candidates to demonstrate similar physical energy, referring to his jump from the stage.
“If they bring their own candidate, let him also jump down like me. If they can do that, vote for them,” Makinde added.
A video of the moment is currently making the rounds on social media, drawing attention to the governor’s remarks about age, stamina and leadership.
Makinde’s comments come as political discussions ahead of the 2027 elections increasingly focus on the qualities, capacity and preparedness of those seeking public office.
