The campaign convoy of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has reportedly come under attack by suspected thugs in Calabar, Cross River State.

The alleged incident was raised by Ester Umoh, a media aide to the former Anambra State governor, in a social media post on Wednesday.

“Thugs are trying to attack our convoy,” Umoh wrote, alerting the public to the situation as the campaign team moved around the state capital.

Obi had arrived in Calabar shortly before the reported incident, accompanied by his wife, Margaret, and his running mate, Rabiu Kwankwaso, ahead of a town hall meeting.

Details of the alleged attack remained sketchy at the time of filing this report, with no immediate information on possible casualties or damage to vehicles in the convoy.

The development comes about two months after Obi’s convoy reportedly faced a similar incident in Benue State, where suspected thugs allegedly blocked Boko Road near the Air Force Base in an attempt to stop him from entering the area.

As of the time of filing this report, the police and other security agencies had yet to issue an official statement on the reported attack in Calabar.
