President Bola Tinubu has approved a ₦70,000 monthly transport support for public service workers across all levels for six months, starting from November 2026, as part of measures to ease the impact of rising living costs.

The approval was among the resolutions reached on Tuesday at a conciliation meeting in Abuja between the Federal Government and the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), following renewed pressure from organised labour over workers’ welfare, the cost of living and outstanding agreements.

The meeting was led by the Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr Muhammad Maigari Dingyadi, alongside NLC leaders.

The Federal Government also approved the payment of peculiar allowance arrears from May 1, 2026, to be paid in three equal monthly instalments beginning in November.

Another resolution was the immediate constitution of the Minimum Wage Negotiation Committee, which is expected to begin meetings to determine an effective date for implementing a new national minimum wage.

Tuesday’s meeting followed an earlier conciliation session held on October 22, 2026, by the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment to resolve disagreements between the government and organised labour.
