Police Corporal Kills Girlfriend

A police corporal, identified as Amos, has allegedly shot dead his girlfriend, Grace, before taking his own life with an AK-47 rifle at the Ajaokuta division of the Kogi State Police Command.

The incident reportedly occurred around 9pm on Friday, October 23, 2026, following months of alleged disagreements between the two officers over trust and infidelity.

Grace was also a police corporal attached to the command.

Sources said Amos was assigned to night-duty station guard and resumed duty at about 6pm but allegedly abandoned his post hours later to visit Grace at her quarters.

He allegedly opened fire on her three times, hitting her in the shoulder, lower abdomen and leg, before turning the rifle on himself.

The tragedy reportedly followed a troubled relationship that had deteriorated in recent months, with disagreements allegedly escalating into physical confrontations and threats.

A source said the officers had been dating for some years before trust issues and accusations of infidelity began to strain their relationship.

According to the source, their disagreements became so serious that both officers were previously detained by the Divisional Crime Officer (DCO), who reportedly advised them to end the relationship to prevent further conflict.

“The two junior police officers had been dating for some years now, but a few months ago, they started having trust issues and cheating allegations. There had been physical fights and threats to the extent that they were detained at some point by the DCO, who later advised them to end the love relationship for the sake of peace,” the source said.

The source alleged that the disagreements continued despite the intervention, culminating in Friday night’s shooting.

The spokesperson for the Kogi State Police Command, Afusat Saliu, confirmed the incident in a statement to Punch on Sunday, saying an investigation was ongoing.

“We are aware of the incident, and the case is currently under investigation; we will update members of the public after the investigation is concluded,” she said.
