A young man who landed in prison after stealing N700,000 to buy mobile phones for his two girlfriends has reportedly been left disappointed, saying neither woman has visited him since his incarceration.
Suleiman Idi, 25, reportedly told the Adamawa State Jail Delivery Committee that Aisha and Asabe, both from his community in Ngurore, had deserted him despite the money he stole to buy them phones.
The revelation came as the committee reviewed his case on Friday, October 23, and reduced his six-year jail term to two years.
Idi, from Ngurore in Yola South Local Government Area, admitted stealing the money and spending it on the two handsets. He reportedly expressed regret over his decision, particularly because the women had shown no concern for him since he was sent to prison.
His troubles began in June 2026, when he was arrested over the theft. He was later tried by the Ngurore Area Court and sentenced to six years in prison.
He was transferred to the Yolde Pate Correctional Centre on June 22 to begin serving the sentence.
However, his case came up for review before the state Jail Delivery Committee, chaired by the Chief Judge, Justice Hafsat Abdulrahaman. Following its review, the committee reduced his sentence from six years to two years.
Idi’s account of the women’s absence from his life in prison emerged during the proceedings, although the source did not indicate whether either woman had responded to his claims.
