Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has handed over rebuilt shops free of charge to traders whose businesses were destroyed by fire at Aleshinloye Marketin Ibadan.
The handover took place on Wednesday, October 28, fulfilling the promise the governor made to affected plastic sellers after the March 12, 2026 fire outbreak destroyed several shops in the market’s plastic section, leaving traders with losses running into millions of naira.
Makinde had visited the market on April 1 to assess the damage and assured the affected traders that his administration would intervene to support their recovery.
At the handover ceremony, the beneficiaries expressed appreciation to the governor for rebuilding their shops and giving them back at no cost, describing the gesture as a major relief after months of disruption to their businesses.
Makinde said his administration remained committed to the welfare of traders and the growth of commerce in Oyo State, noting the importance of Aleshinloye Market to the state’s economy.
The Executive Chairman of Ibadan South West Local Government, Kehinde Adeyemi Akande, commended the governor for the intervention, saying the rebuilt shops would help the affected traders restore their livelihoods and resume business.
Akande attended the event alongside his vice chairman, Akinade Fijabi, Saheed Fijabi and other local government officials. He also reaffirmed the council’s commitment to supporting the state government’s development efforts at the grassroots.
Other dignitaries at the ceremony described the intervention as a demonstration of the government’s support for traders affected by the fire disaster.
