Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, says residents have given him a new nickname, ‘Okpe’s baby’, following what he described as a change in the way they receive him in public.

The governor disclosed this during a live programme on ITV and Radio on Saturday, recounting his experience while walking along Sapele Road.

Okpebholo said residents now approach him with friendly gestures, adding that the reception had encouraged him and made him more comfortable moving around the state.

“I was on Sapele Road yesterday. They have even changed my name from Akpako Rescue to Okpe’s baby. These things give me joy because I walk freely on the street,” he said.

The governor also expressed support for President Bola Tinubu, saying he believed the Federal Government’s economic policies were beginning to produce results.

He pointed to developments in the foreign exchange market and the naira’s performance against the dollar as signs of progress, urging Nigerians to assess the current economic situation rather than judge it solely by past experiences.

Okpebholo also defended the removal of the petrol subsidy, arguing that it had dismantled a system through which a small group of people benefited disproportionately from the country’s resources.
