Gospel singer Chidinma Ekile has revealed that she once left Nigeria with plans to secure permanent residency abroad because she did not want to return to the country.

The former secular singer disclosed this while speaking at a recent event organised by EeZee Conceptz, explaining how her plans to remain abroad eventually fell through before she ventured into gospel music.

Chidinma said she was processing her residency papers while abroad but was unable to complete the process.

According to her, the Chief Executive Officer of EeZee Conceptz was the only person who consistently contacted her from Nigeria during that period, encouraging her to return.

She said the calls influenced her decision to come back, after which she approached him for a gospel music contract because she wanted to devote more time to God.

“I travelled. I ran away from Nigeria. I was processing my papers not to come back to Nigeria, but for some reason, it didn’t work.

“While I was abroad, the CEO of EeZee Conceptz was the only one who was calling me from Nigeria. He kept encouraging me, and I found the strength to come back to Nigeria.

“When I came back, I asked him to give me a gospel music contract because I want to spend time with God. And he gave me a contract that even my lawyer said seemed like a charity,” Chidinma said.

The singer also explained that her decision to switch from secular to gospel music was not initially driven by a desire to make gospel songs, but by her determination to build a deeper relationship with God.

Chidinma, who gained prominence in the Nigerian music industry after winning the third season of Project Fame West Africa in 2010, later embraced gospel music and signed with EeZee Conceptz, a record label known for its gospel artistes.
