The burial of gospel singer Toluwanisings has been thrown into uncertainty by a family dispute over where he should be laid to rest, as Tope Alabi, Woli Agba and Dele Omo Woli threaten legal action over allegations linking them to his death.

The singer, whose real name was Olayemi Bayonile Bolaji, died in Ibadan, Oyo State, on October 14, 2026, after reportedly slumping, Naija Metro News had reported.

Toluwanisings’ family disputes

His family had announced a Night of Tributes and Service of Songs for Tuesday, October 27, at 3pm at Hall of Grace, Jogor Centre, Ibadan. However, no separate burial date had been publicly confirmed in the reports reviewed.

His father, Muniru Adekunle Olayemi, said he wanted his son buried either at the house he built or beside his late mother in Ikirun, Osun State.

Speaking about the disagreement, the father claimed that the singer’s widow preferred a cemetery or church burial because she would be uncomfortable living in a house where her husband was buried.

He said he subsequently proposed that the singer’s remains be taken to Ikirun and buried beside his mother.

The widow’s account of the disagreement was not included in the reports reviewed, while the final burial location remained unconfirmed.

The dispute has also drawn calls for an investigation into the singer’s death. A man who identified himself as Toluwanisings’ uncle, Lawal Ademola, urged the government, community leaders and law enforcement authorities to ensure an impartial investigation.

He also called for the burial to be delayed until the investigation was completed.

Meanwhile, gospel singer Tope Alabi and comedians Ayobami Ajewole, popularly known as Woli Agba, and Olamide Oladimeji, known as Dele Omo Woli, have threatened legal action against people circulating allegations linking them to the singer’s death.

Alabi’s solicitors, Oakmount Legal Practitioners, issued a cease-and-desist letter dated October 24 to a Canada-based pastor identified as Tayo Kumuyi, also known as Pastor Tayo Ministries.

The lawyers demanded the removal of the disputed publications, a retraction and an apology over allegations they described as false and defamatory. The letter also raised concerns about a statement allegedly directed at the singer after she issued a public warning against defamation.

Similarly, Woli Agba and Dele Omo Woli, through their solicitors, Gemgold Solicitors, warned against publishing or sharing allegations associating them with Toluwanisings’ death.

Their lawyers described the claims as false, unsubstantiated and damaging to their clients’ reputations, warning that those responsible for originating or circulating the allegations could face legal action.

The legal threats followed the circulation of online claims linking several gospel music personalities to the singer’s death. The allegations remain disputed, and the reports reviewed did not establish that any of the named entertainers had been found responsible for his death.

Toluwanisings’ death had earlier sparked controversy after his personal assistant, Babadunni Gbolabo, alleged that the singer was taken to seven or eight hospitals in Ibadan in an attempt to obtain emergency medical treatment.

However, the University College Hospital, Ibadan, said it had no record confirming that the singer was brought to the facility.

The family’s tribute programme was announced as part of activities to honour the singer’s life and ministry. The invitation described the event as an opportunity for family members, friends, colleagues and members of the Christian community to pay tribute to him.

The singer was survived by his wife and two daughters.
