Reality TV star Tacha Akide has called on the organisers of Big Brother Naija (BBNaija) to take a break and rethink the show’s format, arguing that social media has changed how Nigerians consume entertainment.
Tacha made the call during an interview on Arise TV, where she said the reality show needed fresh concepts to remain attractive to viewers in an increasingly competitive digital entertainment space.
“I think they need to take a break, restrategise and just come up with something because we are really at an era where everything happens on social media,” she said.
The former BBNaija housemate noted that online discussions and controversies now compete for the attention that television programmes once commanded.
She cited the ongoing public conversations around music duo P-Square’s family issues as an example of how social media can draw audiences away from reality television.
“You don’t want us watching housemates in the house, meanwhile P-Square is giving us part seven of his family issues… we have come to a point where everyone is so comfortable with social media right now,” she said.
According to Tacha, the entertainment landscape has changed significantly since BBNaija became popular, making it necessary for the organisers to rethink their approach and offer viewers something different.
“At the time when the show was really hitting, it was different, and now it’s different. Social media wasn’t what it was then,” she said.
She urged the organisers to develop more compelling ideas capable of meeting the expectations of Nigerian audiences.
“They need to try to do something different which would be much more mind-blowing and more interesting to Nigerians because Nigerians are hard to please,” Tacha added.
BBNaija, which airs on Africa Magic, has helped launch the entertainment careers of several former housemates, many of whom have ventured into acting, music, fashion and content creation.
The show’s 11th season, tagged Show Ya Sef, ended on October 4, 2026, with Temi Nkem emerging as the winner. She beat 23 other housemates to claim a prize package valued at N160 million.
Tacha became widely known after participating in the 2019 edition, BBNaija Pepper Dem. She was disqualified following an altercation involving fellow housemate Mercy Eke.
Since leaving the show, she has pursued ventures in entertainment and fashion and worked as a radio host at Cool FM. In 2025, she also launched Tacha FC, expanding her interests into sports.
