The Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Dr. Wasiu Olatubosun, conveyed this message in a statement issued today in Ibadan, stressing that the government remains committed to maintaining law and order throughout the festival period.

According to him, reports indicate that some persons have been taking advantage of the festival to block roads and hinder the free movement of residents and motorists, describing such actions as unlawful and unacceptable.
Dr. Olatubosun urged all participants and stakeholders to celebrate responsibly, noting that while citizens have the right to observe their cultural and religious festivals, such celebrations must not infringe on the rights of others or constitute a public nuisance.
The Government also warned against the possession, display, or use of weapons and other dangerous objects during the festival, stating that anyone found engaging in activities that threaten public safety will be arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the law.
He called on the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies to ensure strict enforcement of law and order and to take appropriate action against offenders.
While wishing all Egungun worshippers a peaceful and successful celebration, Dr. Olatubosun reaffirmed the government’s commitment to protecting lives and property, emphasizing that violence, thuggery, vendetta and any conduct capable of disturbing public peace will not be tolerated.
